When a fan found more popularity than Mahi’s men!

As the Indian team arrived for the big match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium on Friday, they had a familiar face cheering them. Sudhir Kumar Choudhary is not just another fan waiting to catch a glimpse of the demigods of Indian cricket.

Sudhir gets into position, waves the tri-colours with his left hand, whilst using his right to blow the conch shell. “It is a ritual which I have followed for years. I do get reprimanded by the cops, but it is my way of saluting a team that has given so much joy,” Sudhir said. Sporting a tonsured head, barring an island of hair on the top front resembling the Indian map, the 34-year-old’s lean frame flaunts a pale blue Indian team jersey. A self-confessed fan of Sachin Tendulkar, Sudhir is sad not to see the batting maestro feature in the team for the first two ODIs.

Sudhir has plans of visiting Sachin’s new house this month. “I had gone to his new house when it was being built during the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League. I will meet him this month as there is an ODI in Mumbai,” Sudhir said. Even as he speaks there is a bee-line of autograph hunters and Sudhir is more than happy to oblige. That’s not all. An English TV crew too jumps into the bandwagon.

“These crew members wanted to do a documentary on me and Indian cricket. There was a Los Angeles-based filmmaker who too did a documentary on me,” Sudhir said.

Sudhir, who has bicycled to watch India play in Pakistan and Bangladesh, aims to dedicate his life for the Men in Blue. “I do not want marriage and other worldly pleasures. I just want to cheer for the Indian team,” he said.

Sudhir surely knows
