Why Trinidad&Tobago are the CLT20 champions?
It may come as a surprise to many who have seen Mumbai Indians clinch the third Champions League but to me the team that had soul and flair was Trinidad & Tobago. Right from the onset, they had to fight the qualifiers and fought tooth and nail with virtually every team and match. It missed out on the semifinal berth by the skin of their teeth.
Cricketers have always taken pride in bringing joy to countless fans across the world with their on-field performance. However, there are some who light up lives to many off it too. Trinidad & Tobago skipper Daren Ganga is one among them.
Ganga, one of the ambassadors for sports in Trinidad and Tobago, has been associated with many charitable causes. “We have got a broad mandate from our government to promote sports of all disciplines. My own foudation — Daren Ganga Foundation — is centered around providing help and mentorship for young people. It tries to balance extra-curricular activities with education. I have always been open to charitable causes,” Ganga said.
While education takes a backseat for many cricketers, Ganga was keen on completing his graduation. “It was one of the challenges in my life. I graduated this year in law from the University of London and would soon be wearing the black gown,” quipped Ganga.
The 32-year-old, who is married to Pakistan-born Noorulain Agha, believes that his wife is his biggest support. “She has been a big help. We were destined to meet. Love is not something which you can predict and plan. She is budding fashion designer. Once am done with cricket, I may probably play a part in her career as well,” Ganga said.
