Sree ready to roar

As one strolls through the net sessions of Kochi Tuskers Kerala at the Holkar Stadium here, it is hard not to spot a certain Shanthakumaran Sreesanth. His monk-like demeanour off the field camouflages the trademark aggression he has worn up his sleeve on it.

As he steams into the crease to have a bowl, his curly mop resembles the one sported by yesteryear tennis legend John McEnroe. “I am often misunderstood as a cricketer. I prepare for every game with the same vigour with which I did when I played my first game. When I am on the cricket field, all I want to do is give my best shot. I have learnt to control my temper. I try to be as calm as possible and try to do the job at hand,” Sree says.

If you thought Sree only wanted to be known for his exploits with the ball, then think again. His newest tattoo —- S36 — engraved on his neck speaks volumes about his new plans. “S36 is the name of the music band that I am part of. We will be doing a lot of shows in the coming months,” Sree says. The pacer has even penned lyrics, sung songs for the band too. “It is more of an entertainment and I love to be part of the band,” Sree says. Madhu Balakrishnan, one of the renowned singers from Kerala and Sree’s brother-in-law is the lead singer in the band.

While Sree joins the likes of Brett Lee (lead guitarist at Six And Out) and Graeme Swann (part of Dr Comfort And The Lurid Revelations) who have been part of musical bands, the pacer will not mind performing in the national colours too.
