New film on Proteas: Mera Naam Choker!
If Raj Kapoor ever made a movie on the South African cricket team, it would have been named “Mera Naam Choker”. Over the years, their performances in the biggest tournament of the game have left a lot to be desired. What has been irritating (if I may add that word!) in South Africa’s not-so-surprising loss to England in Chennai on Sunday has been their complete lack of belief in pressure-cooker situations, a trait any top-side team would have mastered if they wanted to remain in the big boys league. But alas! South Africa continues to remain a bunch of chokers.
A month back, in an interview to an agency, SA batter AB De Villiers belied the chokers tag, but I am sure it will come back to haunt him in the coming matches of the competition. If one sees the record of SA in their last seven outings in ODI, they have suffered three collapses and two while chasing. What’s new? Well, the very fact that they have not ironed out their flaws makes them look like jokers and not to forget the c-word that has become synonymous to their cricketing existence.
With the choking saga not ready to end even in the near future, it will be fair enough to say that South Africa will have to pull their socks up, if something credible needs to come out of this tournament. The loss to England by six runs will once again raise questions on the mental aspect of the battle that SA seems to be finding themselves in, since eternity. The batting order of the team on Sunday resembled a ‘Battling order’. One hopes they come out of this rut, but again, how often have we been proved wrong.! Mr Graeme Smith, are you listening?
Very interesting phrase
I congratulate, your idea is brilliant
What a great web log. I spend hours on the net reading blogs, about tons of various subjects. I have to first of all give praise to whoever created your theme and second of all to you for writing what i can only describe as an fabulous article. I honestly believe there is a skill to writing articles that only very few posses and honestly you got it. The combining of demonstrative and upper-class content is by all odds super rare with the astronomic amount of blogs on the cyberspace.
