On a day when former Indian captain Anil Kumble was being appointed as a mentor for off-field activities, comes the shocker of Yuvraj Singh being booed and subsequent ruckus being created across the television channels is not what the Indian fan wants.
At a time when the common Indian sports fan has been bothered about the corruption in the ‘COMMON WEALTH’ Games, the Yuvi shocker could have been avoided.
The main topic to ponder is the utilisation of Kumble in the coach role for non-cricketing issues such as handling fame etc.
Look, legends such as Kumble, Tendulkar, Laxman and Dravid belong to the old school of thought. They play their game and may not be partying harder at dawn. Their careers have prolonged so far due to the rigorous fitness levels and adherence to discipline, something which Yuvis, Ojhas and Rainas will find it hard to match.
While Kumble has got a green signal from BCCI for his new educational programme, that will help cricketers on several areas like handling money, fame, interacting with other players and behaviour in public, it remains to be seen as to how much our so called super stars will follow.
If Tendulkar is playing his Test No. 169, it’s his passion for the game and obedience, which most of the others don’t possess. The only way Jumbo would be effective will be by having a strict monitoring procedure whereby the player is put under certain situation to determine how he would react. Also, Jumbo needs to be given more authority to control the players who forever have been known for their wild ways.
Will Jumbo’s formula work wonders for the Indian cricketing super stars? Well, your guess is as good as mine.
Yuvi’s example is a case in point. Again, the media manager will try his level best to keep the matter under the carpet and our every hungry will have a field day for the next 48 hours.
